 Our home port is Lymington a delightful and picturesque Georgian town at the Western end of the Solent and just outside the southern boundary of The New Forest. Crew embark and disembark from Kipper either on Town Quay or, occasionally from the harbour master's pontoon by the yachts clubs at the far end of Bath Road. Lymington has a fine selection of pubs and restaurants, notably The Ship and The Kings Head on Town Quay, both of which serve fantastic meals. For those wishing to extend their break away from home, Lymington has a fascinating street market on Saturdays and The New Forest offers excellent walking and mountain biking. We can send you a list of hotels and guest houses if you wish. Our sailing area for Competent Crew and Day Skipper courses ranges from Chichester Harbour in the East to Poole Harbour in the West. Favourite places to spend the night include: Newtown Harbour (for wildlife, peace and quiet and star-gazing); Yarmouth (for its olde-worlde charm and Salty's restaurant); Cowes (for the buzz); The Folly (for a rural location and good food); Keyhaven (for BBQs on the beach), The Beaulieu River (for wildlife and the chance to visit historic Bucklers Hard), Portsmouth (for Naval tradition and nightlife); Chichester Harbour (for beautiful anchorages); Poole Harbour (for beautiful, sheltered sailing and a lively night out on Poole Quay); Alum Bay (for swimming and beautiful sunsets) and Studland Bay (for beautiful coastal scenery, swimming and quiet nights at anchor). Coastal Skipper courses, venture slightly further a field, to the Purbeck Coast and Weymouth (for fantastic Fish and Chips); Alderney (for it's 1950s way of life), Cherbourg (for steak frites and cheap wine) and St Vaast (for a gastronomique feast). Of course, we venture even further on our seven day cruises, taking in ports such as St. Peter Port in Guernsey; St Helier in Jersey, St Malo in Brittany and Isles Chausey in the middle of nowhere. Favourite Pubs include: The Kings Head in Yarmouth; The Anchor in Cowes; The Lord Nelson in Poole; The Customs House in Gunwarf Quay in Portsmouth; The Master Builders in Bucklers Hard and The Divers in Alderney. Depending upon crew preferences we can spend our nights in quiet anchorages, alongside "olde-worlde" town quays or in busy marinas. Busy marinas have the best shower facilities but the least charm. |
